Who is Scott Funk?
Allow me to introduce myself . . .
I’m
Scott Funk, the single parent of a wonderful 17 year old daughter, Kat. Our
home is an old Victorian on Main Street in Richmond, Vermont where I have my
office. Keeping busy is easy. I’m the only
reverse mortgage specialist in Vermont to have earned the designation of
Certified Senior Advisor®. Currently I a member of Vermont Public
Radio’s Citizen Advisory Board, the Richmond Board of Civil Authority, as
well as a “Vermont Roads Scholar”. I also hold memberships in the Richmond
Historical Society, the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association,
Society of Senior Advisors™, AARP, the Churchill Society and Business
Networking International. In the past I’ve served Richmond as a volunteer
fireman, selectman, collector of delinquent taxes, and as the town’s
commissioner on the Chittenden Solid Waste District.
Off and on for the last 30 years I’ve been a photographer. Back then the
pictures were of ghost towns in the Southwest. Now they are village and
country scenes usually taken within walking distance of Main Street. You can
download my photos free and learn more about me than you probable care to
know here at my website,

Whether explaining their VA home buying benefit to a company of the Army
Reserve or conducting a REALTOR seminar on renovation financing; I enjoy
teaching. I’m a trained public speaker and am always delighted to speak to
clubs and associations on a variety of topics. For over a dozen years I’ve
been helping people buy and refinance their homes in Vermont, New Hampshire
and Massachusetts. The last seven years my specialty has been financing high
end second homes. Before that I concentrated on VA Guaranteed and FHA
Insured mortgages. This has given me the experience to understand, work
with, and explain the many complexities of a reverse mortgage. The first
time I learned of reverse mortgages I understood clearly how important this
program could be to our rural state. Upon learning how few of these
mortgages were even being offered I determined to specialize in this field.
Because, for me there are not many things as important as being able to stay
in one’s own home for as long as possible. The company I work for,
Mortgage Financial is what many people call a mortgage broker. That means we
deliver your mortgage to Freedom Financial at the end of the process. My
role in all of this is to make sure you understand the process and manage
the application process.
Naturally, a reverse mortgage isn’t right for everyone. That is why it is
so important that we take our time. After all, you need to understand your
choices. I need to understand what problems you are hoping to solve.
Ideally, whether or not a reverse mortgage is best should be an answer you
arrive at after a good deal of thoughtful, careful, deliberation. From our
first meeting until you close your mortgage, it can take as long as six
months. It involves your financial security as well as your home. There is a
lot of information, much of it confusing. This is not something to be
hurried. After all, this is about your home and your future. There are no
small questions and there are no foolish questions. If we are talking about
a home worth $150,000 then every question is a $150,000 question. They are
all important. So, when you have a question, ask me. Finally, I love my
job. I really enjoy what I do every day. It is my hope you will be able to
tell. That’s why I don’t worry about closing every deal. It is like fishing.
The real pleasure is being there, not how many you catch. If you enjoy it
enough the worst you ever have is a wonderful day on the river.
I look forward to working with you,
Scott Funk
